Discover Integrative Restoration or iRest® for anxiety, insomnia, and stress management yoga help for chronic health conditions.

I am not only a Yoga Wellness and Mutu® System Pro. I am also a Level 1 iRest Teacher in Copperas Cove, Texas. Through iRest, I help people discover for themselves that amidst the busy-ness, distress and unpredictability of their lives, that they can tap into a quiet, grounded place within and handle situations with more focus and direction.

I’m new to Yoga (3 weeks). Lani has started a 4 week series of iRest Yoga Nidra for “Yoga for Warriors”....and I can’t say FABULOUS enough to symbolize how I felt after the first session last week. I left the session completely relaxed, recharged and restored. This lasted through a gymnastics & a football practice, to include driving between Temple and Killeen. Did I mention my husband is deployed, we have three active boys and I work full-time? I’m never relaxed!!!

I rested very well that evening. I can’t wait for this particular class this week! I’ve also signed up to try a different class. EXCITED!!!!

What is Integrative Restoration or iRest?

iRest is a research-based transformative practice of deep relaxation and meditation that calms the nervous system, restoring one's capacity to heal and rejuvenate. iRest was initially developed to help soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who had PTSD. Research has shown that iRest Yoga Nidra (Yoga Nidra meaning a practice wherein you are lead to progressively relax and process thoughts, feeling emotions) effectively reduces:

  • PTSD

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Insomnia

  • Chronic Pain

  • Chemical Dependency

iRest encourages development of the "relaxation response" - which is the body's natural mechanism to counter the flight or fight response. The tools learned from practicing iRest can encourage the relaxation response and help self-manage conditions such as, but not limited to:

  • Hypertension

  • Nausea and Vomiting during Pregnancy

  • Premenstrual syndrome

  • Side-effects of Cancer

  • Bodily pains such as backaches, headaches, abdominal pain, muscle pain, joint aches, post-operative pain, neck, arm and leg pain.

Is iRest something you do only in a group class or is it only for your private sessions?

You can experience iRest either as an iRest Yoga Nidra session - people practicing Yoga Nidra are often lying down and are lead first through a progressive relaxation to and breath awareness which helps ease tension in the body.  You can be practicing this in a group class, or you can experience this as the main focus of a one on one sessino. Some people find that they literally fall asleep during iRest Yoga Nidra, eventhough the intention is to be mentally awake, alert, attentive yet calm.  Following progressive bodily relaxation and breath awareness is a meditative inquiry into feeling, emotions, thoughts and beliefs, equanimity and Joy.

Bear in mind that there are different protocols for Yoga Nidra. Not every Yoga Nidra group class is an iRest Yoga Nidra class.

You can also experience iRest without the deep physical relaxation and without being in that "dream" like state. I will guide you directly through an introspective practice to sort out unsettling feelings, emotions, thoughts or beliefs. I will record what you describe to me during this practice - and everything will be kept confidential, This service is called an iRest Dyad Session.

Is iRest like hypnosis?

iRest is NOT hypnosis. Hypnosis is based on suggestion input to the client, while in iRest there is no overt suggestion to the client. The client welcomes feelings, emotions, thoughts, and beliefs that arise and the introspective process revolves on what the client is willing to process for himself/herself.

It seems that there is a lot of work and exchange that goes on in iRest, especially the iRest Dyad Session. Is iRest counseling or psychotherapy?

iRest DOES NOT intend to replace counseling, pyschotherapy or other modes of emotional/mental health management etc. Dyad sessions are co-meditations - with the teacher guiding the client and taking note and reflecting back all self-reflections that the client shares. The teacher does not analyze, interpret, diagnose, nor offer any strategies or opinions about the self-reflections shared by the client.
